Qatar - Romania Relations


  • The diplomatic relations between Qatar and Romania began on 22/10/1990.
  • In 1993, Romania opened its embassy in Doha.
  • In September 1996 the State of Qatar opened its embassy in Bucharest.
  • The relations between the two countries are at the level of a resident ambassador.
  • The former Presidents of Romania visited the State of Qatar (Emil Constantinescu in October 1999, former President Traian Basescu in February 2006 and November 2011).
  • His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani  (may Allah protect him) made an official visit to Bucharest in June 2002 and in March 2008.
  • Visits at various official levels between the two countries were exchanged.
  • The bilateral relations between the two countries continued its development  in the natural direction at the political and diplomatic level, as the two countries celebrated in October 2010 the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
  • There is a clear coordination for cooperation between the two countries at the international forums and mutual support for nominating the candidates of the two countries inside the international institutions and global conferences.
  • There is a mutual desire of the two governments towards the coordination of positions and consultation towards regional and international issues and developments in the Middle East, as well as other regional and international issues of common interest.
  • Among the diplomatic priorities of both countries serving the economic interests for the rise of the economic cooperation, the trade exchange and investments, which is still not at the level of two countries.
